Location Info | : | Colombo National Museum Established in 1877, this is the first and largest of Sri Lanka's museums, housing a wealth of cultural and archaeological treasures. The museum library is a treasure-trove of historical information, it contains among its collections, no less than four thousand ancient palm-leaf manuscripts Gangaramaya Vihara (Buddhist Temple) Arguably the most impressive Buddhist temple in Colombo, this temple houses a fascinating collection of religious art, from stone carvings to brass figurines. Many of these objects of art are gifts from other Buddhist countries, donated by pilgrims visiting the vihara. Zoological Gardens, Dehiwala Less than half an hour's drive from the hotel, Dehiwela Zoo is home to many fine animals, both indigenous and exotic. The prolific fauna of Sri Lanka are comprehensively represented, and a huge aquarium is one of the main attractions. Dehiwela Zoo is also a botanical garden containing many unusual species. The zoo also features a walk-through aviary, a reptile enclosure and a butterfly park. |
